Founded in 2021 and based near Charlottesville, Virginia, Colby’s Crew Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to pulling at-risk horses out of the slaughter system and restoring their well-being. The organization’s experienced team—working alongside licensed veterinarians, trainers, and committed caregivers—provides comprehensive intake evaluations, individualized medical treatment plans, and structured physical and behavioral rehabilitation. Horses who are ready for a new chapter are thoughtfully matched with adopters whose skills, resources, and goals align with each horse’s temperament and long-term needs.

For horses who are elderly, chronically ill, or otherwise unsuitable for placement, Colby’s Crew Rescue offers lifelong sanctuary or, when quality of life cannot be maintained, a humane, veterinarian-guided end-of-life option that spares them the trauma of transport and slaughter. Beyond direct rescue work, the organization is deeply committed to education. Through online resources, public outreach, and community events, Colby’s Crew Rescue raises awareness about responsible horse ownership, the realities of the horse meat trade, and the financial and time commitments required to care for equines.

By combining expert care, ethical decision-making, and community engagement, Colby’s Crew Rescue works to reduce the number of horses entering the slaughter pipeline and to promote a culture of compassion, accountability, and lifelong stewardship in the equine community.
